More gambling surrounding New Jersey on the way | Meadowlands ...

Online poker is coming to Pennsylvania and Connecticut ? sort of.

Mohegan Sun, which operates casinos in Uncasville, Ct. and in Mount Pocono, Pa., announced Friday it has a deal to offer play-for-free online poker to its customers via Bally Technologies? iGaming platform.

The deal is with Bally Technologies, and play will begin in early 2013. The websites are mohegansun.com and poconodowns.com. It?s Bally?s first East Coast iGaming deal.

Key detail: the technology would allow customers to make sports bets on the iGaming platform should those states decide to allow it.

So New Jersey is doing the heavy lifting of defending a lawsuit against the NFL, NCAA, and other sports entities, while properties in other states are gearing up should New Jersey win the case and then quickly be followed by other states such as Connecticut.

The news comes in the same week that New Jersey put out its formal regulations to allow gambling on handheld devices on casino grounds ? and just a day after a state Senate committee in Trenton backed a bill to allow the state?s racetracks the same privilege.

more details on the Mohegan Sun plan, from the press release (am hoping to get a few more details on the breadth of this plan shortly):

?The agreement comes after an extensive six-month review process to determine the best vendor and technology.

?We?re thrilled to continue our successful partnership with Bally Technologies,? said Mitchell Etess, Chief Executive Officer for the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority. ?Our goal is always to provide our guests with the best gaming and entertainment offerings, and we believe iGaming is the next step in fulfilling the demand for regulated online play when customers aren?t able to be on property. Further, we believe this exciting new offering will entice new players to visit our properties and experience all that we have to offer.?

The iGaming platform is also designed for mobile integration and is ready to accommodate online gaming beyond poker, such as casino table games, video slots, and sports betting as Connecticut regulations allow.

?We are proud of our long-term strategic partnership with The Mohegan Tribe,? said Bally Technologies? Chief Executive Officer Richard Haddrill. ?This partnership will demonstrate the advantages of having an open iGaming platform, which allows for best-in-class content.? ?
